"I love those light bulb moments when it suddenly clicks and a whole new world of opportunity opens before the student".

Music has always been a joyful thread running through my life — and I love helping others weave it into theirs. I'm Colleen Freeman, a traditional fiddle player, music educator, and cultural advocate passionate about connecting technique with creativity, groove, and heart. I specialize in classical and folk fiddle styles, offering supportive, personalized instruction in person in Bellingham, WA, and online. I work with learners of all ages and backgrounds who are ready to explore, grow, and find their own musical voice.
From the moment I first picked up the violin, just before my sixth birthday, music has been a home I return to again and again. I was classically trained through the Suzuki Method, but it was discovering my Irish roots at age nine that truly ignited my passion — and from there, my appreciation of folk traditions from around the world grew and flourished. I studied both classical and Celtic fiddle with Anna Schaad for eight years before moving to Virginia, where I launched my teaching career and became a three-time State Fiddle Champion.
Since then, music has carried me across continents and communities: from busking my way through Europe & Mexico on a bicycle (captured in my 2018 EP Horse Without Wings), to writing and performing original music with my bands The Wandering Seas (Pleasant Bay, 2021) and Marie, The Band (Where I Wanna Be, 2022). We're currently recording a full-length album — pre-sales available here!
Beyond performance, my deepest passion lies in helping others tap into their own musical voice. I find real joy in translating the nuances of technique into words and actions that make sense for each individual, creating experiences of growth, satisfaction, and delight.
Wherever you are on your musical journey — just beginning, picking up the instrument again, or reaching for new heights — I'd love help you discover your own joyful path.
